Spring/Summer 2014
"When Fashion Meets Modernism - Pop Art"
Pop
As seen from this
year's Spring/Summer runways, designers all around are paying tribute to 20th
century Modernism with different artistically inspired designs. Pop Art is making
a strong statement in many collections, with Prada's Warhol-esque portrait
prints a notable highlight. With Karl Lagerfeld's debut of the “Chanel
Supermarket” last month at the Paris Fashion Week and Moschino's sell-out
McDonald's inspired Fall/Winter collection, Pop Art is looking like a trend to
stay for 2014!
Prada
Pop

with six contemporary artists to create Pop Art portrait prints that are reminiscent
of Andy Warhol's Marilyn Monroe.
Chris by Christopher Bu
Chris
The stylist of choice of Chinese actress Fan Bing-bing and emerging
Mainland Chinese fashion talent Christopher Bu has also incorporated Pop Art elements into
his S/S14 collection, polka dots paired with red hot lips reminds one of Roy Lichtenstein's comic illustrations.
The essence of Pop Art is
to reflect the culture of consumerism using simple, vivid color blocking. To
create a Pop Art inspired look, stick with saturated solid colors, play around
with comic prints, celebrity portraits and brand logos to evoke a vernacular
style of the masses.
